ABOUT

Danny Rombout is a versatile percussionist, composer and producer who blends diverse musical traditions into a sound that is both distinctive and personal. His work spans a wide range of albums and collaborations, each reflecting a new step in his artistic evolution. Explore his music section to dive into his musical world, and stay tuned for his latest tour dates.

Born in 1994 in Wageningen, the Netherlands, and now based in Rotterdam, Danny comes from a vibrant family with Surinamese-Indian roots. From an early age, he was immersed in Latin American, Caribbean, West African, and Indian music - all cultures and with music that celebrated movement, connection, and joy. This diverse musical upbringing shaped his sensitivity to rhythm and interaction, laying the foundation for his open-minded and expressive approach to music.

Danny's drumming and percussion work are marked by innovative grooves, refined textures, and a natural balance between intensity and subtlety. He has a strong foundation in Afro-Caribbean and Latin-American rhythms and is constantly exploring hybrid forms of music, where new sonic directions meet deeply rooted traditions.

His musical path has taken him across continents, performing in countries such as Cuba, the UK, Ghana, China, and Egypt, and on stages including North Sea Jazz Festival, Blue Note China, AFAS Live, Cairo Jazz Festival, and Jazz Baltica. In 2022, Danny won an Edison Award with Ghanaian artist Peter Somuah for the album Outer Space. Over the years, he has shared stages with some of his inspirators such as Alain Pérez, Marcial Istúriz, and Conjunto Arsenio Rodríguez. Danny also had the privilege of studying with some of the tastiest percussionists around like Changuito, Robelis Arévalo, Alex Miguel, Nils Fischer, and Dani Morales.

Just after graduating cum laude from the Conservatory in Rotterdam, he crossed paths as a session percussionist with Michelle David & The True-Tones, Jungle by Night, Izaline Calister, Thijs Borsten, Masalsa, the Metropole Orkest, amongst others. He is currently part of acclaimed projects of Peter Somuah, Raquel Kurpershoek, Rolf Sanchez, and Nils Fischer & Timbazo. He collaborates with them on upcoming music and contributes his own touch. He also continues to create his own music, exploring new ideas and sounds that reflect his personal artistic vision. Follow his newest music and projects via the socials to join the journey.
